Job Duties:

OSHA Risk Category I (High Risk) Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patient’s conditions, develops individual care plans for patients, and evaluates the effectiveness of the care plan Demonstrates knowledge of particular care needs when caring for the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations Coordinates the delivery of patient care for a group of patients; directs and assigns patient care assignments to support personnel Assigns tasks and delegates patient care activities to subordinates based on the patient’s needs and knowledge and skill of the provider Directs and supervises care provided by subordinates Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other disciplines as required and adjusts the nursing care process as indicated to ensure optimal patient care Teaches the patient/significant other how to care for the patient’s health care needs Maintains documentation in the patient record Adheres to regulatory standards for documentation Evaluates the effectiveness of the care plan through observation of the patient’s physical condition and behavior, signs and symptoms of illness and reaction to treatment, and through communication/collaboration with the patient and health team members and modifies the plan as needed Knowledgeable of medical screening exam regulations and triage protocols Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital and nursing standards Ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the Universal Care Physician and records those observations accurately and concisely. Assists physicians with patient exams and special procedures. Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients, such as cardiac arrest. Assists physician however necessary within Hospital policy to facilitate patient care Stimulates motivation in team members; recognizes accomplishments, encourages participation, provide opportunities. Participates actively in orientation of new personnel. Serves as a role model and controls general tones of the Emergency Department. Behaves in a manner that is supportive of Hospital management Delivers care in a manner that preserves/protects client/resident autonomy, dignity and rights; is non-judgmental and non-discriminatory; maintains patient confidentiality Functions as relief Charge Nurse as assigned by Asst Director Participates in continuous quality improvement activities Enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops Shares knowledge and skill with colleagues and others. Orients, instructs and trains assigned personnel Demonstrates competency as directed/instructed by Director Communicates clearly and tactfully with patient and their families Adheres to hospital and nursing departmental policies and procedures, objectives, CQI program, safety, environmental and infection control standards Participates on unit committees as assigned Demonstrates sensitivity to patient’s comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress Explains procedures to patients thoroughly, provides assistance when necessary, monitors patients’ comfort and alleviates anxiety during procedures Responds promptly to patient inquiries and requests Prioritizes work and provides prompt and efficient service Attends 50% of unit staff meeting/reviews 100% of staff meeting minutes Performs other related duties as assigned or requested May be required to float to units in Emergency Services Division Will be asked to identify patients to initiate care for patients
