Clinical Laboratory Contracting Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Position Overview:
This role is ideal for a professional with a deep understanding of clinical lab operations, contract management, and supplier negotiation in a healthcare setting. The SME will serve as a key liaison between stakeholders, ensuring the optimization of lab-related procurement and leasing activities.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary contracting resource for clinical laboratory services and equipment.
  • Review, manage, and negotiate equipment contracts, service agreements, and leases related to lab operations, including but not limited to analyzers and associated platforms.
  • Evaluate and aggregate contracts, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, cost savings, and compliance with procurement standards.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across various departments to understand needs and identify opportunities for standardization and optimization.
  • Leverage experience in clinical leases to negotiate favorable terms and manage renewals and terminations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including clinical staff, procurement, finance, and legal teams to ensure effective contract execution.
  • Support contract lifecycle management including RFP development, supplier evaluation, and performance monitoring.
  • Analyze cost and utilization data to identify savings opportunities and recommend strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Provide support for special projects or new initiatives as needed, particularly those involving high-volume or high-cost contract categories.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Strong background working in or closely with clinical laboratory environments.
  • Proven experience with equipment contract management, particularly involving analyzers and other core laboratory instruments.
  • Prior experience with contract aggregators and enterprise-level contracting strategies.
  • Expertise in clinical leases, including negotiation, execution, and vendor relationship management.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting large healthcare institutions, with exposure to high-volume purchasing and cost/lot-based contracting.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities.
