Registered Nurses in Special Procedures are responsible for
pre and postoperative assessment, intra procedural monitoring and assisting
providers deliver exceptional care.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching – Employs teaching strategies to
    promote health and a safe environment.
  • Relationships – Establishes effective working
    relationships with peers, physicians, and other members of the health care
    team. Identifies and confers with appropriate resources regarding patient care
    decisions.
  • Planning – Develops a plan that prescribes
    strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes.
  • Outcomes Identification – Identifies expected
    outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation.
  • Knowledge – In collaboration with
    Leader/Director, actively pursues required knowledge and skills through orientation
    activities specific to the unit, unit based in-service programs, reading
    current literature and seeking new clinical learning opportunities.
  • Implementation – Implements care and supervises
    care delivered by other team members in alignment with the plan of care and
    approved safety and infection control standards.
  • Evaluation- Evaluates progress toward attainment
    of goals and outcomes. Reports data and outcomes to as appropriate to physician
    and/or other disciplines.
  • Diagnosis – Analyzes assessment data to
    determine actual or potential diagnosis, problems, and issues
  • Provides rationale for patient care decisions
    based on standards of care specific to department
  • Collaborates with physicians and other members
    of the health care team to address issues related to patients through the
    process of mutual information sharing, discussion, and decision making.
  • Participates in the ongoing variance monitoring
    of clinical pathways
  • Assists with GI diagnostic and therapeutic
    procedures and performing cleaning of scopes
  • Performs and assists with procedures including,
    but not limited to conscious sedation, pain management, IV therapy, blood and
    byproduct administration, bronchoscopy, minor surgery
  • Takes call after hours as assigned
  • Educates patients and families appropriately for
    their procedures and treatmen
  • Consistently processes patient charges for
    procedures and supplies correctly
  • Consistently documents care and service in
    accordance with current Plan for Provision of Care, systems (i.e. Meditech) and
    protocols.
  • Handles patient phone calls for patient
    education and/or reassurance needs
  • Assessment- Collects pertinent data and
    information relative to the patient’s health or the situation. Recognizes normal
    and abnormal findings when gathering data.
  • Coordination of Care- Plans and evaluates care
    in collaboration with appropriate disciplines for assigned patients.
