Shift: Night 4×10-Hour (21:00 – 05:30)

Histology Tech
9p-5:30a, Monday night-Saturday morning
•Correctly identifies all specimens and accurately enters patient demographics, ordering physician, date of service and ordered tests into the laboratory information system (LIS).
•Carefully maintains positive patient ID in every process that is performed.
•Expertly creates paraffin blocks
•Uses the tissue processor and microtome for specimen fixation and slide preparation.
•Utilizes the automated instrumentation for staining of prepared slides.
•Prepares and stains specimens from FNA and EBUS procedures.
•Performs Proficiency Testing as assigned.
•Assists with discarding of old tissue as needed / when asked
•Is responsible for maintaining work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
•Performs quality control according to schedule meeting policy and procedure guidelines.
•Maintains accurate, timely logs related to quality control.
•Identifies variances in quality control or staining properties. Attempts to resolve the issue and notifies the lead technologist. Careful documentation of the problem and resolution are expected. All unresolved issues will be taken to the lead technologist and /or pathologist.
•Maintains and documents equipment maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer
